Oceancraft Ebbtide 33 - A TRUE WORLD CRUISER
Avalon is located in Taylor\'s Creek, Beaufort, NC and is available most anytime for inspection. The nearest airport is EWN.(New Bern). I am the second owner of this vessel and bought her in 1996 in Beaufort , NC where I live. I had been looking for an Ebbtide 33 and was surprised to find one just layed up in a nearby marina. The owner had just returned from a trans-Atlantic circle from US to Europe and back via the Caribbean and as it was his third trip on this boat he was going home to attend to business etc . and not really interested in selling her. I was able to change his mind eventually. \"Avalon\" is a custom version of the Ebbtides that Oceancraft built Cornwall , England and had a few modifications from the standard vessel they built. The main difference was that lead ballast was used in lieu of the normal iron, making for a lower CG and a very stiff vessel. (same weight just lower). Also a Perkins 4-108 was used instead of the Buke which added about 15hp extra. The fuel tank holds about 50gals. and the water tank 50 as well. At the time I bought her I was in the tug and towing business and had all the paints etc to maintain her but very little time to use her.... About 2004 I had the hull sandblasted and Thermal sprayed, a process like galvanizing and very expensive. She was then painted with Awlgrip. I later moved her into a friends machine shop and she spent the next three years there while I replaced, renewed , fabricated and generally fit her out for more extended voyaging. Every thru-hull was replaced, all hoses, pumps etc. renewed or rebuilt. The engine was taken out and all rubber replaced, water pumps rebuilt etc. . The fuel tank was cleaned and generally everything put in proper order. At this time I also installed new refrigeration, Balmar alternator, a vented hood for the stove, new solid tapered stanchions, modified the anchor windlass to use chain on both gypsies, installed a large Barient winch for soft line on the foredeck, installed new Lewmar deck hatches, S/S cockpit lockers with custom dogs. There was an endless amount of other stuff done that I can\'t remember but it was my boat and I planned to go to the Pacific and had been in the tug and salvage business for 25 years and knew what things go wrong with boats..... In 2006 I sold my business and took her up to Maine for the summer and in 2008 I had a new main, #1, working jib and Yankee built. Later I also bought a aysmetrical spinnaker. Avalon is also rigged for trade wind sailing with duel whisker poles and lose luffed downwind sails. Additionally she has a separate track for the storm trysail which is international orange as is the storm jib. At this time I also had a large tropical awning made which runs from the mast aft to the radar arch. To buy that alone and install is close to 10k. I made a trip to the Caribbean at this time and on the return voyage from Grenada to St. Thomas in the trades had three consecutive days with noon to noon runs of 150 miles. Reluctantly at this time I sailed back to NC instead of the Pacific as the economy and by default my cruising kitty took a real hard hit. I laid up Avalon in a yard here and spent the winter in Brazil with the intention of relaunching her the following spring. As things go while in Brazil I decided that I would start a charter business in the Caribbean so ended up buying a 50ft. wooden schooner....) which I chartered in the Caribbean last year. The engine has approx. 2500hrs. runs great and in 2008 I installed a new injector pump and injectors. There are many spares aboard amounting to a couple of thousand dollars including new sea water and fresh water pumps and complete gasket set. At this point she has been hauled for 2 years and needs some spiffing up. The teak was coated with Cetol and that\'s all falling off but it\'s teak... The batteries have been taken out as they were shot (a 8D and a couple of golf cart batteries). There is small one installed that I use to turn the engine over from time to time and energize the electronics. The interior could use some paint on the overhead and I need to install a new shut down cable on the engine. It\'s aboard but I have not had time to install it. This fall I painted the bottom with three barrier coats of epoxy and one coat of bottom paint, replaced the cutlass bearing and installed a Lazdrop Gen II dripless packing for the shaft. The second coat of bottom paint is aboard. There are many things I keep thinking of while writing so I\'ll just list them here and if you have any questions just let me know.
