Marten Yachts 66 C/R
ICON is now back on the market as her present owner for the last 5 years has decided to reluctantly sell her. Built in New Zealand by Marten yachts to a Bob Perry design, ICON has given her (now 2) owners years of enjoyment both on the race course as well as some of the fabled cruising grounds in the Pacific North West of the United States. She was years ahead of her time for the ultimate cruiser racer. Two cabins, with an owners cabin forward, both with ample room, a very well appointed galley, and a full sit down navigation table with many updated electronics. Heater for the cold nights, hot water showers, roller furling make this a great idea for a couple to cruise short handed with friends. Lifting keel, some powered winches, all with the idea of going fast with out the need for a lot of crew. For those who want to compete, her 1st to finish in the 2012 Pacific Cup to Hawaii, and her many firsts in the Swiftsure, prove she still has all it needs to win sailboat races. New North 3Di sails, with complete back ups, container full of all the cruising gear, there is not a thing that ICON lacks. As of October 2014, her asking price has been reduced to $ 695,000 USD and open to offers. No better time than now to call for the latest information for her DESCRIPTION Icon is a 65\' custom carbon fiber yacht designed by the well-known Pacific Northwest naval architect Robert Perry and built by Marten Yachts of New Zealand. Since construction in 2001, Icon has cruised all over the Pacific and has successfully raced in numerous regattas, including the Sydney Hobart race, Hamilton Island Race Week, San Francisco Big Boat Series, Swiftsure, and the van Isle 360 to name a few. Three features distinguish Icon from many other boats - the first is that it is made completely from carbon fiber (hull, rudder, mast and boom); the second is that the interior is nearly completely removable for racing (reducing the weight of the boat by approximately 4000 lbs), and the third is that she has a hydraulic lifting keel which reduces her draft from ~15 feet to 9 feet (making it possible to enter many harbors which otherwise would be inaccessible). Icon weights approximately 27,000 lbs in racing trim (no fuel, sails or stores) and has an upwind sail area of 2,000 sq feet. Downwind the sail area increases to approximately 5,000 square feet, depending on the flying sail (spinnaker) being used. When racing Icon carries a full inventory of sails J1 through J5, storm jib & trysail, A0 through A5, plus numerous special-purpose sails. HULL & STRUCTURAL PLUMBING & MECHANICAL TANKAGE Icon has a 15 gallon day tank, 2x 80 gallon diesel tanks, a 40 gallon aft diesel or kerosene tank, and 2x 100 gallon water tanks. Fuel can be transferred between the various fuel tanks using a transfer pump and manifold accessible from the aft stateroom. The main engine and the dual Espar diesel furnaces operate from the day tank. PROPULSION Icon is powered by a 75hp Yanmar engine coupled with a custom PIYA sail drive and a two speed, three bladed Gori folding propellor. The main engine control panel and ignition is located in the cockpit along with the throttle & transmission. The engine has approximately 2500 hours and is electronically integrated into the NMEA 2000 system and can be monitored from the B&G Zeus displays in the cockpit and from the three Maretron displays inside the vessel. Included with the engine monitoring system is a fuel flow sensor which enables real-time utilization statistics to be displayed on the Zeus displays. HYDRAULICS Many core systems on Icon are hydraulically activated enabling quick & easy adjustment from inside the cockpit and without complicated block & tackle systems. These systems are as follows: Central Panel (electric) The central panel hydraulic system is electrically activated and is used to raise/lower the keel. The controls associated with this system can be accessed from deck level through the keel trunk. Cockpit (manual) All manually activated hydraulic systems are accessible from the cockpit and adjusted using a conventional lever arm with assocaited pressure gauges. The reservoir for the system is located in the aft lazerette. DECK INTERIOR RIGGING Icon has a custom Southern Spars 3-spreader mast with EC6+ standing rigging. Both mast, boom and rigging are made of carbon. ELECTRICAL Icon has three distinct electrical systems all controlled and monitored from the navigation station -- 110v, 24v and 12v. The 110v system is fed into the main electrical bus using a SmartPlug 30amp line. This then feeds the 110v circuits (galley, heads, etc) and a 3000 watt waterproof Outback inverter. This inverter also serves as a battery charger in addition to a 150amp altenator on the main engine. The power and electrical characteristics of each of these three systems are available on the NMEA 2000 network and can be displayed on the Zeus or Maretron displays. The DC systems on the boat are fed by two 400 ah AGM batteries which are connected into a 24v and 12v buses. The 12v section can also be cross connected to the engine start battery. The 24v system is used to power most core systems on the boat, including all lighting (exclusively LED), refrigeration and keel activation. The 12v system is used to power vessel electronics and other miscellaneous items. ELECTRONICS Icon has an extensive racing & cruising electronics package. The system is comprised of four parts -- a B&G H3000 motion system for sailing instrumentation; a NMEA 2000 system for tankage & electrical systems monitoring; and communications system for wifi, cell & satellite; a MOXA Marine Computer running various software applications (including Expedition): B&G Sub-System 1x B&G H3000 Motion System 4x B&G 20/20 HiVu Displays on Mast (one display controlled by Expedition) 6x B&G GFD Displays in Cockpit 2x B&B Analog TWD & TWD Displays in Cockpit 1x B&G Autopilot Control Head in Cockpit 1x B&G Zeus Broadband Radar Unit (mounted on mast & removable) 2x B&G paddlewheel speed sensors with inclinometer 1x B&G depth sounder 1x B&G load cell (for forestay) 1x B&G string pot (for forestay lengthy) 2x iSTAR GPS receivers 1x Simrad fish finder 1x Simrad Class B AIS receiver with GPS receiver NMEA 2000 Sub-System 3x Maretron GSM240 Displays 6x Maretron Ultrasonic Tank Sensors (3x fuel, 2x water, day tank) 1x Maretron Engine Monitoring System (enables display of engine data on Zeus displays) 3x Maretron Battery Monitoring Sensors (house, engine & emergency) 1x Offshore Daytank Display & Transfer Pump Control Unit Communication Sub-System 1x PepWave HD2 WAN and LAN switch, plus Cellular Router (2 integrated SIM cards) 1x ICOM VHF Radio 1x ICOM Command Mic (for use in cockpit) 1x ICOM SSB Radio with GAM backstay antenna 1x ICOM SSB Tuner (mounted in lazerette) 1x APRS Transponder 2x Cell phone amplifiers 2x WiFI antennas (one for bridging, second for local hot-spot) Computing Sub-System 1x MOXA Marine Computer (running Windows 7) 1x Maretron NMEA2000 Gateway 1x Actisense NMEA2000 Gateway (for use by Expedition) 1x Wired backlit keyboard 1x Wireless mouse RACING SAIL INVENTORY MAIN SAIL INVENTORY Code Description Date Comments Condition M-0 Heavy Delivery Main 2002 Heavy Nylon All-Purpose Main - 3 reef points Good M-1 Light Inshore Race Main 2006 Light North 3DL Race Main - 2 reef points Poor M-2 All-Purpose Race Main Mar-2009 North 3DL Race Main - 2 reef points Reasonable M-3 Light Inshore Race Main June-2013 North 3DI Race Main - 1 reef point Excellent HEADSAIL INVENTORY Code Description Date Comments Condition M-0 Heavy Delivery Main 2002 Heavy Nylon All-Purpose Main - 3 reef points Good WS-A Wind Seeker 2009 North 800M Windseeker - TWS < 6 Okay WS-B Wind Seeker 2012 North 800M Windseeker - TWS < 6 Near New J1-A Light Jib 2009 North 3DL 860M Light #1 Headsail - TWS 4-12 Reasonable J1-B Light Jib 2013 North 3Di Race Headsail - TWS 4-12 New J2-A Medium Jib 2010 North 3Di Medium #2 Headsail - TWS 8-17 Reasonable J2-B Medium Jib 2014 North 3Di Medium #2 Headsail – TWS 8-17 New J3-A Heavy Jib 2010 North 3Di Heavy #3 Headsail - TWS 17-25 Near New J4-A #4 Jib 2010 North 3Di #4 Headsail - TWS 24-34 Near New J5-A #5 Jib 2006 North 3Dl #5 with penant - TWS 35+ Reasonable SPINNAKER INVENTORY Code Description Date Comments Condition A0-A Code Zero 2010 North Code 0A CZ 60 - TWS variable dep TWA Excellent A1-A Light Asym Spinnaker 2009 North AirEx 800 - TWS 6-12 Used A1-B Light Asym Spinnaker 2013 North AirEx 800 - TWS 4-10 New A2-A Medium Asym Spinnaker 2008 North AirEx 960 - TWS 12-22 Good A2-B Medium Asym Spinnaker 2013 North AirEx 800 - TWS 10-22 New A2-C Heavy Asym Spinnaker 2012 North Airex 800-900 Blend - TWS 12-25 Reasonable A3-A Reaching Asym Spinnaker 2010 North AirEx 800 Reacher - TWS 12-25 Excellent A4-A Heavy Air Asym Runner 2009 North AirEx 900 Max Runner Good A4-B Heavy Air Asym Runner 2012 North AirEx 900 Max Runner New A5-A Heavy Asym Spinnaker 2009 North Heavy Air Chicken Kite (Red) - TWS 35+ Well Used SPECIALTY SAIL INVENTORY Code Description Date Comments Condition JT-1 Jib Top 2010 North 3DL Jib Top Excellent SJ-A Storm Jib 2002 Lidgard Hanked on Storm Jib - inner forestay Near New ST-A Storm TrySail 2002 Storm Trysail on mast track New GS-A Genoa StaySail 2012 North 3DL Genoa StaySail Excellent SS-A Spinnaker StaySail 2006 North StaySail Well Used SS-B Spinnaker StaySail 2010 North StaySail Excellent CRUISING SAIL INVENTORY CRUISING GEAR Roller furling headsail (drum, forestay) MISCELLANEOUS GEAR Galvanized aluminum cradle with keel supports
