Freedom Yachts (now out of business) was the maker of the Freedom 28. Garry Hoyt, a champion sailor created the unstayed rig to give \"freedom\" from the inefficient sail shapes of traditional sloop rigs as well as to give \"freedom\" from the compression and maintenance issues associated with standing rigging. The masts are made of carbon fiber and are set well forward on the boat.A cat-ketch is a sailboat that is rigged as both a catboat and a ketch. Specifically, there is larger mast stepped at the very bow, and a smaller mast further aft. It is different from a standard ketch rig because there is no jib, and the foremost mast is further forward than most ketches.
