Prout
CYMRIC IS A VERY RARE PROUT. BUILT IN 1996 at the peak of the PROUT EMPIRE in England. No expense was spared by her commissioning owner who also had her surveyed frequently during her build. All this documentation has been saved. Cymric is named for a feline breed from the Isle of Man that loves water. Prout is well-known for safety, sturdiness, interior fit and fitness and comfort at sea. This is a catamaran that is capable of being sailed throughout the world. If you are searching for a comfortable, safe voyaging catamaran then Prout should certainly be on your short list. More importantly, as you will see in the full specifications of this listing, Cymric has been refitted and upgraded by the current owner. Cymric is truly ready to be sailed anywhere in the world. The Prout 45 was designed for safe long-term cruising. Her size is impressive even though she is not particularly wide with a length/beam ratio of 2.15:1. What stands out is her presence which speaks volumes for her character and underlying design philosophy. The boat is a fully-fitted cruising catamaran intended for secure long legged jaunts. She is the quintessential ocean-going catamaran. The outline of the coachroof is sleek and the teardrop windows give her a futuristic look. The hulls have reasonably full U-shaped sections for generous load carrying. In order to provide plenty of reserve buoyancy the bows are well raked and flared. The sterns are narrow and the keels are long with low profile fins fitted with winglets which minimize side sliding in rough seas. The rudders are low semi elliptical profiles supported by half-depth skegs. The decks are open and the foredeck is expansive. There are massive lockers in the foredeck and the cockpit for all the paraphernalia of blue water cruising. The cockpit is spacious without being dauntingly large, well equipped with seating, stowage, and a fixed teak table. The helmsman is provided with a comfortable seat on the starboard side with a good view forward. With the mast stepped on the main bulkhead all lines are handled from the cockpit. The boat is stoutly rigged with 7 Dyform (30% stronger) stays, and a network of diamonds and double spreaders. The mainsheet tackle is powerful and runs smoothly on the track across the back of the cockpit. Stepping into the saloon, one is immediately impressed by the décor and abundance of exquisite hardwood trim. Bulkheads and joinery are veneered in warm American Red Cherry. Natural light floods all parts of the yacht from a wealth of overhead hatches, opening ports and windows. Throughout, you will be impressed by the quality of the fittings and finishes. Step down into a galley in the central part of the starboard hull that will satisfy the most demanding cook. It comes fitted with cooktop/broiler, a full refrigerator/freezer and a triple sink. The hull is wide enough to allow people to walk past those working in the galley. Cabinets facing each other extend the length of the galley, and clear sliding doors above the sink provide abundant storage. The cabins are large and open with all the storage needed for long distance cruising. The bunks are 7 feet long and 4 feet 9 inches wide and the head room is 6 feet 2 inches. Installed under the bunks in the aft cabins, access to the two 50hp Volvo diesels is extremely good. They can be reached either from the cabins themselves or from on deck via ladders. Top speed is 8.5 knots and cruising speed is 7.5 knots. She can be cruised on one engine at 5.5 knots with fuel consumption of half a gallon per hour. This cat can be turned on the spot, whether going ahead or astern and positioned with great precision. This Prout is not a racer, her windward performance equates closely to a cruising monohull of similar length. However she is comfortable, carries her sail well and has a gentle motion. Her performance is sure footed, safe, stable and steady. Her design is conservative and proven. She is manageable by two people but can be sailed single handed if needed. Her well built and finished accommodation offers a spacious and luxurious package for a couple intending to live aboard or planning for a bout of extended cruising. In short she is a beautiful and well engineered classic. SPECIFICATIONS CYMRIC IS A VERY RARE PROUT. BUILT IN 1996 at the peak of the PROUT EMPIRE in England. This area can be shaded via a Sunbrella tent affixed to the spinnaker halyard and also occupied by cushions or deck chairs. The saloon topside is accessed by steps positioned aside the cockpit. Four deck-fills are located along the side walkways (2 port & 2 Starboard) and the whole area is surrounded by stainless wire lifelines and railing. A MOB safety spotter pole is attached to the port aft stay. The Kato davits that support the RIB dinghy and rigging are centrally located. The safety life ring and rear anchor roller are located starboard aft. The starboard stair \"scoop\" also provides access to the hot/cold fresh water shower wash-down for swimmers. THE COCKPIT The cockpit is shaded by a Sunbrella bimini with removable Stratoglass panels. This bimini is mounted on a welded white powdered coated aluminum frame. There is a bi-color lighting unit and controls mounted to the underside of the bimini frame directly above the foldout teak table. Hard side mounting steps and mainsail walkways are built into the bimini frame. Reception/Entertaining Area There are water resistant cushions for all 5 seating areas. A NauticStar foldout teak table for eating and entertaining is positioned between the aft seating areas. Individual drink holders are strategically placed throughout. Dual Pioneer speakers for your listening pleasure are also positioned in this seating area. Helm The helm station is positioned at the forward starboard side of the cockpit. All sail and motoring activities can be controlled without leaving the helm. An electric Lewmar winch can be used on all lines and 4 manual winches are strategically located for primary or secondary assists. A Pompanette helm seat with footrest completes this area. THE BRIDGEDECK The bridge deck spans the distance between the port and starboard hulls. The mast is mounted at the rear of the saloon and does not intrude into the interior of this space. This interior area consists of the saloon, navigation station, and guest quarters. Steps located at the aft end of the saloon provide access down to the hulls. Saloon A bi-fold door from the cockpit allows entry to a spacious standing room saloon. The squared configuration area allows spacious seating for 6 or can be used as additional sleeping area for 3 guests. The table has drop leaves and is mounted atop of a Norcold refrigerator for drinks and snacks. Above the table is a ceiling mounted multilight directional halogen fixture. Separate reading lights and Caframo fans are also mounted in the saloon corners. The newly DuraTouch pleather upholstered settee has large storage spaces beneath the removable seats.
