Custom 52 - New arrival
LEGLUS a 52\' custom boat is ideal for extended ocean cruising and trans ocean races. LEGLUS formerly “ Bengal II” was designed and built for a Japanese couple to race the 1987 Melbourne Osaka Double-Handed Yacht Race (finished 4th). Leglus has been raced successfully in major trans ocean races including the TRANSPAC Race four times (Finished 3rd in 2001, 2003, 2005 and 5th in 2009) and the PACIFIC CUP in 2002. Since 2009 she has been based in Oakland, CA and has been sailed in local races, day sailing and cruising the San Francisco Bay. LEGLUS was refreshed in 2009 for TRANSPAC and she has been properly maintained since then. This vessel’s hull is sandwich construction, with alternating layers of fiberglass with reported Kevlar reinforcement in places, and closed cell foam cores. For internal reinforcements, the vessel relies upon fiberglass over foam ring frames, transverse frames and longitudinal stringers. There are two watertight bulkheads forward. There are stainless steel keel bolts with robust backing plates. The deck layout consists of a self-bailing cockpit, flush aft, side, and fore decks, and a blister cabin, with its roof extending over the forward end of the cockpit. The decks are constructed of alternating layers of fiberglass, with closed cell foam cores in places for reinforcements. The cockpit has a teak plank overlay, which is bonded to the substrate.
