Herreshoff Caribbean 50

This heavy displacement ketch-rigged cruising sailboat was a limited production boat from the late 70\'sdesigned for warm water, trade wind sailing; only 10 built. The Herreshoff lineage means something and it is alive and well in this boat. It has proven itself a capable passage maker on two R/T, CA to Hawaii and a Latin America/S. Pac cruise. She\'s a wonderful live- aboard. It has undergone an interior refinish and her systems are ready for another voyage after a good dry out time. Go anywhere and be comfortable, safe and secure. This is a big 50 footer with full bilges and lots of keel. Loves 20-25 knots and feels secure in 40. Perkins 6-354; Motor at 5 to 6 knots at 13-1400 rpm and 1.5 gph. 1200 miles under power without extra fuel. Roomy head aft w/sit down shower. Smaller head w/ shower at foot of companionway ladder. Spacious engine room.

Garry Hoyt, an Olympic sailor and 1970 Sunfish World champion, took a background of seventeen years sailing in the Caribbean to put together layout ideas for a cruising boat of maximum comfort. Not a cold water compormise, and not a a half-assed ocean racer, but a full powered (100 h.p) center cockpit ketch designed soecifically for warm waters and trade winds.
