Wyman D. Haskell - Wyman D. Haskell
Recently restored one-of-a-kind tender built in the early 1960\'s in Stonington, Maine. Wyman D. Haskell of Oceanville, Maine built her approximately 1962. The current owner acquired her from the Weil family for whom she was built. She is just over 12 feet, built with oak keelson and ribs with spruce planking, bow deck, engine box and benches. The engine is the same vintage Palmer Marine, single cylinder, 8 HP, water cooled. Recently, the cylinder was honed and piston replaced with Wisconsin engine parts. The carburetor was professionally rebuilt by Carburetor Specialist in Georgia. Engine cooling passages are clear and cooling was adequate while running last summer. Engine performs admirably. Aside from varnishing and cleaning of bronze castings, the only topside improvement made was a new mahogany floor. Her hull was restored by kerfing, removal of prior joint sealant materials, installing Douglas Fir strips and setting with West System epoxy combined with mahogany sanding dust for topsides color matching, which worked and matched more than satisfactorily. The keelson, hull and transom were each coated with fiberglass using West System epoxy. The hull was painted with Interlux epoxy paints; Interlux bottom paint was applied below the water line (red).
