Holman & Pye 31 Sovereign - Lovely classic

1969, Holman & Pye design, built JW & A Upham, carvel, ketch rig with alloy spars, attractive cruising design with wide side decks and good accommodation.  Much recent work including engine overhaul, re-bedding of chainplates and much more.

CONSTRUCTION                            

Built in 1969.  Carvel wooden construction with long keel, self draining aft cockpit, Bermudan ketch rig and 4 berth internal layout with standing headroom.

SAILS  & RIG:                          

Slab reefing mainsail (1990’s) with mainsail  cover.  Genoa roller reefing system with furling No 1 Genoa (1990’s), mizzen (original with cover).  No 2 Genoa (1990’s) and No 1 Jib (1990’s).  Spinnaker (1990’s).  Gold anodised alloy masts and booms and stainless steel standing rigging. 

ENGINE:                                           

Lister Petter 30HP inboard diesel engine with raw water cooling system. Alternator charging to 4 x 12 volt batteries.  Cruising speed under engine is around 5 to 6 knots.  Shaft drive to fixed propeller.

DECK GEAR:                             

Stainless steel pushpit, pulpit and guardwires, sprayhood, dodgers, cockpit cover, cockpit cushions, emergency ladder, tiller, spinnaker pole, 4 HP Yamaha outboard motor. Anchor with chain and warp, manual anchor windlass, good selection of mooring warps and 6 fenders.

SAFETY GEAR:                         

liferaft, jackstay lifelines on side decks, manual fire extinguisher.  Manual bilge pump.

NAVIGATION EQUIPMENT:       

Brass binnacle compass, echo sounder, log, wind speed and wind direction, VHF radio, Raymarine ST2000+ Autopilot, Raymarine C70 chart plotter, radar, GPS, clock and barometer, navigation lights, steaming light and tri colour masthead lights.

DOMESTIC EQUIPMENT:           

She has an Eberspacher hot air heating system.  Her galley has a spirit cooker with 2 burners, various pots, pans, cutlery and crockery, water supply to the sink from a fixed water tank.  Her separate heads compartment has a marine toilet.  Fabric upholstery with curtains.

ACCOMMODATION:                  

She has 2 “V” berths in the forepeak and 2 single settee berths in the saloon.

REMARKS:                               

“Sovrana” is a well designed and well build cruising boat from a highly regarded builder and design team.  She is an attractive boat with ketch rig, having alloy mast giving less maintenance and varnished cabin sides and cockpit.  Her interior is roomy with good headroom and she has an excellent array of modern navigation equipment.  Her owner tells us that she is a delight to sail, easily handled single handed and ideal for cruising.
